A Small Beginning (Barely Worth a Drumroll)

Once upon an ordinary day, our Lucky Dip began as something tiny – almost shy.
Just a plain ZIP file with a colouring page, a recipe, and a couple of generic printables tossed together like a forgotten drawer of freebies. It felt Western, predictable, and well… about as magical as a leftover paperclip.

We could’ve left it there.
But deep down, we knew it didn’t feel right. Not for us. Not for where we come from.

A Change of Heart – and Direction

Why offer a “lucky dip” that could belong to anywhere, when we live in a place that belongs to everywhere — South Africa, with its layered stories, laughter, contradictions, beaches, folklore, and sun-baked memories?

So, like all good adventures, we pivoted.
Quietly at first. Then with intention.

We decided to fill the Lucky Dip with meaning.
With warmth.
With threads of heritage and sparks of imagination.

To make it feel like opening a small treasure box – the kind a child keeps under a bed, filled with keepsakes that only make sense when you know the heart behind them.

Rooted in Home, Dusted With Nostalgia

We shaped the Lucky Dip around what raised us and shaped us:

– Folklore stories whispered through generations
– That particular December heat that smells like sunscreen and Christmas
– Family jokes, late-night creativity
– And the tiny magical moments that appear in ordinary days if you look just right

It became less of a download and more of a memory – a digital version of finding a faded old postcard or secret note tucked inside a vintage book.
